Wedding invitation wording examples

Your invitation should tell guests who is inviting them, when the event takes place and where to go. The rest is your voice: formal, warm or just a few thoughtful words. Here are six starting points. Replace the fields in brackets with your own details.

Classic and elegant

For an invitation with a calm, formal tone.

Dear guests, With love, we invite you to celebrate our wedding. We would be delighted to share this special day with you. [Name] and [Name] [Date] · [Time] [Venue, address]

Warm and personal

For close friends and family.

Our next chapter is beginning, and we would love you to be part of it. Join us for a day filled with love, laughter and our favorite people. We can't wait to celebrate our wedding with you! [Name] and [Name] [Date] · [Time] · [Venue]

Short and minimal

A concise message for designs that give the visuals more room.

We're getting married! We would love you to spend this day with us. [Name] and [Name] [Date] · [Time] [Venue]

Romantic

A gentle, heartfelt tone for a fairytale or floral design.

Our story is beginning a new chapter. The most beautiful memory will be sharing this day with the people we love. With all our hearts, we invite you to our wedding. [Name] and [Name] [Date] · [Time] [Venue]

From the families

If you would like the invitation to include both families.

The [Family name] and [Family name] families warmly invite you to the wedding of [Name] and [Name]. We would be delighted to share our families' joy with you. [Date] · [Time] [Venue, address]

Separate ceremony and reception venues

When guests need a time and address for each part of the day.

With love, we invite you to our wedding day! [Name] and [Name] [Date] Ceremony — [Time], [Ceremony venue] Reception — [Time], [Reception venue] We look forward to celebrating together.

What else can I include?

RSVP:“Please let us know by [Date] whether you can join us.” Include a working way to reply, such as your RSVP form or contact details.

Dress code:“The mood for the day is [Style or color palette].” If this is a preference, say so, so guests do not mistake it for a requirement.

Two venues:List the time and address separately for the ceremony and reception. Each map link should open the correct location.

Check before adding your text

  • Replace every placeholder and check the spelling and wording of your names.
  • Keep the date, time and venue consistent in the message and the editor's dedicated fields. Fill in the date and time fields to update the countdown too.
  • Check the mobile preview to make sure the text is readable and no important words are lost.
  • Use a shorter message in designs with compact text areas. Move extra information into the relevant sections.

These are sample messages, not text copied from clients' invitations. Adapt them to your story and your guests.
